This job can be physically demanding, often working outdoors, whether there’s rain, hail, wind, snow or sun. While it is hugely rewarding it is also challenging, hard work and not for the faint-hearted.
It is also mentally and emotionally demanding, as many of these dogs are under-socialised or traumatised and require skilled handling.

Please note that the role is based at our Shelter in Cinn Mhara, Camus, Connemara H91 AK38 and your own transport is necessary as unfortunately there is no public transport available.
Scope of the Role
- Ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the MADRA Shelter.
- Ensuring that all animals in the Shelter and foster care are cared for in accordance with MADRA policies and procedures and current animal welfare legislation.
- Leading and motivating a dedicated team of employees and volunteers to deliver excellent standards.

What we expect
- Compassion for both animals and people.
- Significant experience of practical companion animal care in an animal welfare or commercial environment.
- Ability to handle dogs and identify veterinary and behavioural problems.
- Management and operational experience.
- Proven ability to recruit, induct, train and manage teams.
- Frontline customer care delivery experience.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Excellent organisation, administrative and time management skills.
- Broad IT Skills including MS Word and Excel to Intermediate level.
- Experience of managing Health & Safety including Risk Assessments.
- Full EU Driving Licence.
Desirable experience
- Management qualification.
- Veterinary qualification.
- Dog Training qualification.
- Business performance, budget and financial management experience.
Ability to commute/relocate:
Camus, Connemara, CO. Galway: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
Animal Welfare/Husbandry: 3 years (required)
Licence/Certification:
EU Driving Licence (required)
