ADCH Members Causeway Coast Dog Rescue Host Second Annual Conference at Stormont
Earlier this month, ADCH member Causeway Coast Dog Rescue held its second annual conference at Stormont, focusing on “Collaboration” to improve companion animal welfare.
The event brought together key experts from across the UK and Ireland to discuss issues such as animal welfare legislation, public health, and the critical link between human and animal wellbeing.
The conference was attended by two ADCH trustees: Peter Laurie, CEO of Battersea Dogs and Cats Homes, and Adam Clowes, UK Operations Manager for Dogs Trust UK, who contributed valuable insights into fostering partnerships across the sector.
Tara Cunningham, Manager and Animal Welfare Lobbyist for Causeway Coast Dog Rescue, said:
“CCDR is like many charities in N. Ireland, we rescue and rehome unwanted dogs, to ensure they have a second chance with a caring and loving family, free from abuse and neglect. However, we also look at Animal Welfare from a different perspective than any other charity, which is through legislation and governance, identifying the gaps and implications on the services being delivered. This is the rationale for the conference and working in Collaboration is key to Animal Welfare Reform. The speakers were exceptional in discussing One Health, the impact of Domestic Violence on animal welfare and the owners as well as our own charity’s mental health and the importance of looking after ourselves and each other. A huge thank you to our experts. We will now be communicating elements of the conference with all key stakeholders so that everyone can benefit.”
The event drew positive feedback from charities, local government, and other key stakeholders, creating opportunities for enhanced collaboration in addressing animal welfare challenges.
The conference and its key themes were also featured in the latest edition of Northern Ireland Veterinary Today.
