A Lifetime Dedicated to Animals and People: Nigel Mason Retires After 40 Years
At the end of May, ADCH Member Margaret Green Animal Rescue said farewell to their CEO, Nigel Mason, as he prepares for his retirement after a career of more than 40 years in animal welfare. ADCH is honoured to share their farewell tribute to Nigel, highlighting his remarkable commitment to animals and his impact on the sector.
After more than 40 years in animal welfare, Margaret Green Animal Rescue CEO, Nigel Mason is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of transformation across some of the UK’s leading animal welfare charities.
Since beginning his career as an RSPCA inspector in 1980, Nigel’s played a key role in modernising animal welfare services. At Blue Cross, he helped pioneer one of the UK’s first behavioural assessment and dog matching programmes, improving rehoming outcomes for countless pets. As Chief Executive of Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare, he doubled the charity’s turnover within seven years, more than doubled animal rehoming outcomes and increased annual visitor numbers tenfold. He also developed successful retail, café and education operations.
Most recently, Nigel has led Margaret Green Animal Rescue through a period of positive change, overseeing its staff, volunteers, rehoming centres and charity shops. Nigel retires with an outstanding record of innovation, growth and lasting impact on animal welfare.
