Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

Location: London

Salary: £16,411.20 per annum

Hours: 24 hours per week (every weekend + 1 weekday)

Contract Type: 12-month fixed term contract

Closing Date: 29th July 2024

At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love and expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them.

Our Dog Operations Team is responsible for delivering the highest standards of animal welfare and care for every dog in their journey through Battersea, from intake, to their care and assessments and then to rehoming. We are looking for someone to join this team at our London centre as a Rehoming & Welfare Assistant, to provide the highest standard of animal husbandry, care, and enrichment to the animals in our care.

The ideal candidate would have experience of looking after animals in a work or volunteer capacity, of delivering high quality work with minimum supervision and having a flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple tasks, as well as experience of positively embracing and adapting to change.

*Please note that this is a 12-month, part-time opportunity, covering every weekend + 1 weekday per week.

What we can offer you:

In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:

  • 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year for full time employees (pro-rated for part-time employees)
  • Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes
  • Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources
  • Generous pension contributions – up to 10% employer contribution
  • Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year
  • We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.

Working with our animals:

Working with our rescues is a very rewarding experience. Your work plays a vital role in giving our dogs and cats a chance at finding their forever home. Everyday will be different and will come with its own unique challenges. We are looking for people with the resilience and adaptability to handle all aspects of this role. It is important to note that the role does involve a lot of physical tasks which are required to provide the exceptional standards of care to our animals.

Equality, diversity and inclusion:

At Battersea, we are committed to providing equal opportunities and developing a diverse workforce and inclusive culture in all aspects of our organisation. We aim to ensure that this pledge, reinforced by our values, is embedded in our day-to-day working practices and our work together.

By hearing from and valuing different experiences, perspectives and contributions, we know we can provide the best expert care for every dog and cat who needs us. We particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities and from members of minority ethnic communities, who we know are currently under-represented at Battersea.

As a Disability Confident Committed employer, we’re happy to discuss any support or personalisation you may need during your application and/or interview process as part of our workplace adjustments. Please contact [email protected] or call us on 020 3887 8341.
