Salary: £25,396.80 per annum (full‑time equivalent), pro‑rated for a 6‑month fixed‑term contract.

We are recruiting for a Dog Carer

Reporting to: Head of Rescue & Rehoming

Contract type: Full time, fixed term contract for 6 months which may be extended.

Hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on a two-week rolling rota. Will be required to participate in the provision of 24-hour cover on a rota basis.

Salary: £25,396.80 per annum (full‑time equivalent), pro‑rated for a 6‑month fixed‑term contract.

Dog Carer

Enthusiastically contributes to our aim of providing quality care for rescued and abandoned dogs and finding them suitable homes.
Keen to help maintain and increase the support for SDR’s activities with the general public, potential donors, other animal welfare organisations and other stakeholders.
Recognition of the importance of representing the charity in a professional & caring manner
Happy to help implement initiatives as directed by management or the Board of Trustees.
Enjoys acting as an integral part of the SDR team of staff, management, Trustees, members and volunteers.

Knowledge and Experience

Unless stated otherwise, the knowledge and experience listed below are essential for this role.

Understanding of animal care and behaviour
Previous experience of working in kennels essential – (ideally within rescue & rehoming environment)

Unless stated otherwise, the skills and abilities listed below are essential for this role.

Ability to demonstrate aptitude for dog handling
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team
A full UK manual driving licence is required; the role involves driving the charity’s vehicle.
Able to work on a flexible basis (hours/days) including weekends and bank holidays

1st round of interviews will be on Thursday 22nd/Friday 23rd January

2nd round interviews will consist of a trial day and practical exercises, this will be week commencing Monday 26th January.
