As a membership organisation for Animal Rescues, ADCH does not take in or rehome animals directly.

However, we promote the rescue sector and the invaluable work our members do in rehoming animals, which can no longer be looked after by their owners.

Giving up your pet need only be a last resort. Before considering contacting a rescue centre, we suggest you look at our section on caring for your pet. If you still have concerns, we suggest consulting a qualified vet or a qualified behavioural specialist if the reason you are think about giving up your pet is because of a medical or behavioural issue. You can find professional behaviourists on the Animal Behaviour & Training Council website.

Many rescues also provide free advice on common concerns with pets. If you are concerned about the cost of veterinary care for your pet, there are charities like the PDSA, RSPCA, Blue Cross and Wood Green who can provide low cost vet care. Other national charities have extensive advice on caring for your pet, training and behavioural issues including Battersea, Cats Protection, Dogs Trust and RSPCA.

We understand that these steps may not fix all issues, and that you may still feel that you need to take the difficult decision to give you pet up for adoption. Our members are all willing to help and ensure your pet gets the care they need and will work to find a new home for them in the longer-term.
