A Fresh Start by the Sea for Tilly
When Charlotte, an ADCH Trustee, and her husband Gary, an ADCH volunteer who runs weekly wellbeing sessions for members, decided the time was right to welcome another dog into their lives, they knew it would always be a rescue.
After losing their much-loved dog, Max, three years earlier, Charlotte channelled her experience into helping others by becoming a Blue Cross Pet Loss Support volunteer. It took time to feel ready for another pet, but both she and Gary always knew they would open their home again to a rescue dog.
Their search led them to Battersea, one of ADCH’s valued Solidarity Members. It was a particularly special connection for Charlotte, who retired as Head of Volunteering & Fostering and Battersea Communities in 2023. There, they met a small dog in need of some extra care and attention. Despite her difficult start, her gentle nature shone through, and it wasn’t long before she won their hearts.
Now renamed Tilly Jam – a name chosen to mark her fresh start – she’s enjoying her new life by the sea. Although she’s still not quite sure what to make of the local seagulls, she spends her days happily watching them from the balcony, safe and loved in her new home.
“Tilly Jam has such a sweet temperament and brings so much joy. After everything she’s been through, it’s lovely to see her confidence grow. Rescue is in my DNA, and it feels right that we’ve been able to give her the home she deserves.”
Tilly Jam’s story highlights the shared values across ADCH’s member network – from Battersea’s dedicated team to our member organisations all committed to supporting animals in need.
