Rabbit Foster Carer – Indoor Rabbits

Every year thousands of rabbits find themselves in our Blue Cross centres. They get all the love of our Centre teams but it’s not like being in a real home. Our foster carers open their homes and hearts to rabbits who really do need a home environment. By providing a loving home our rabbit fosterers help rabbits stay happy and relaxed whilst waiting for their forever family. Fostering is hugely rewarding but it take a special kind of person. We provide full training and ongoing support and all costs are covered. If you’d like to help a rabbit whilst they wait for their forever home this role could be for you.Why we want youSick, injured and homeless pets have relied on Blue Cross for help since 1897. Each year, thousands of dogs, cats, small pets, and horses turn to the Charity’s animal hospitals, clinics and rehoming services for treatment and support.Our Indoor Rabbit foster volunteers help thousands of rabbits each year by providing support, care, and love in a safe and calm setting, helping them on their journey to find new homes. You could be part of this amazing team and directly help the many pets in our care.What you will be doingCaring for Blue Cross rabbits in your own home until they can be rehomedProviding all the care they need – feeding, cleaning, socialising, grooming and giving medication and enrichment. This may also include following behaviour programmesTransporting your animal to/from a Blue Cross site or vets as requiredGiving observations and feedback on your foster rabbit including filling in assessments, diaries and feedback forms, providing photos and videos for our website and potential adoptersThe skills you needPrevious experience of handling and caring for rabbits is preferred, or a keen interest in learningAccess to a car to undertake journeys to and from a Blue Cross site and vetsA quiet, safe and reasonable sized spare room away from other animalsWillingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures and undertake training providedThe ability to provide timely and regular communication with our foster teams through phone or emailTime to dedicate towards caring for, grooming and socialising your rabbitWhat’s in it for youYou’ll be helping rabbits to have happy, healthy livesYou’ll be able to enjoy caring for a pet without a long-term commitmentYou will be helping to give our rabbits the chance of a new start in lifeYou’ll gain practical skills, experience and access to a dedicated Blue Cross ARK training programmeYou’ll join a great team of like-minded peopleYou’ll be provided with all equipment and supplies, including travel costsDisclaimerFostering is a flexible process, but you need to be able to volunteer for a long enough period for rabbits to settle in a new environment.
