Dog Foster Carer

Hours:

Every year thousands of dogs find themselves in our Blue Cross kennels. They get all the love of our Centre teams but it’s not like being in a real home. Our foster carers open their homes and hearts to dogs who really do need a home environment. These might be dogs who struggle with kennel life, dogs who need some quiet time to recuperate if they have been poorly or dogs who would really benefit from learning how to behave in a home situation. Fostering is hugely rewarding but it take a special kind of person. We provide full training and ongoing support and all costs are covered. If you’d like to help a dog whilst they wait for their forever home this role could be for you. What you will be doingCaring for Blue Cross dogs and providing a safe environment in your own home until they can be rehomedSupporting dogs who might be struggling to cope with kennel life or may be recuperating from operationsTransporting your foster dog to and from a Blue Cross site or vet as and when requiredThe skills you needPrevious experience of handling and caring for dogsAccess to a car to undertake journeys to and from the Blue Cross site or vetAccess to outside space for toileting and exercising the dogBeing at home for most of the day to monitor your foster dogs regularlyWillingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures and undertake training providedThe ability to provide timely and regular communication with our foster teams through phone or emailWhat’s in it for youYou’ll be helping dogs to have happy, healthy livesYou’ll be able to enjoy caring for a dog without the long term commitment of pet ownershipYou’ll gain practical skills, experience and access to a dedicated Blue Cross ARK training programmeDisclaimerFostering is a flexible process, but you need to be able to volunteer for a long enough period for dogs to settle in a new environment.
