Location: Finsbury Park Animal Hospital, London
Salary: Circa. £32,200 per annum (including 4% shift allowance and London weighting allowance – circa £53,700 FTE)
Hours: Part time (21 hours)

We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Senior Clinician to join the team at Finsbury Park Animal Hospital to assist in supervising the veterinary team and act as a surgical and clinical lead for the site.

Finsbury Park Animal Hospital provides frontline veterinary services for animals that are most in need. Our provision of high quality veterinary care within a non-commercial environment results in a rewarding veterinary role with a direct, positive impact on animal welfare. At the hospital you will care for a unique variety of animal welfare cases; predominantly cats, dogs and wildlife species.

As a Senior Clinician you’ll be jointly responsible for the day to day running of the clinical side of the hospital. You’ll play a key role in the coaching and mentoring of staff members, acting as the line manager for a proportion of the veterinary team. This is predominantly a clinical role, but with dedicated time for line management and senior leadership tasks, and is supported by the wider management team including Senior Clinician, Clinical Manager, Hospital Manager and Hospital Clinical Director.

This is a fantastic opportunity for those candidates looking for a role with responsibility and authority but desiring work-life balance for those extra-curricular activities! The position participates in the 1:8 out of hours rota with generous compensatory rest, including a full day off after a night on call and 3 days off in exchange for a weekend. Core working hours are 8am – 4pm meaning free evenings too.

You’ll be someone who can lead on the ground, take the team with you and think on your feet. Someone who strives to develop themselves and others around them and who celebrates the successes of the team as well as their own.

At the RSPCA we’ve been at the forefront of animal welfare since 1824 where we were founded in a London coffee shop and we’re proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. With our new strategy ‘Together for Animal Welfare’ we want to improve the lives of more animals in England, Wales, and internationally than ever before and without our dedicated staff and volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to achieve all that we do for animals.

If you’d like to join our team and make a real difference to animal welfare we would love to hear from you!
What you’ll be doing:
Acting as a clinical and surgical lead and enhancing patient care
Line management duties with dedicated desk time
Providing clinical guidance to Veterinary Surgeons, Veterinary Nurses and Hospital Manager on a varied and interesting case load
Oversight of daily, night and weekend rotas
Providing advice to centre staff, RSPCA Inspectors, Animal Rescue Officers and members of the public on a range of topics including welfare cases, shelter medicine and medical and surgical case management
Develop training programmes and deliver training to other members of staff including student teaching
Monitoring and auditing controlled drugs
Participating in public relations, media activities and fundraising at the hospital
Coordinating welfare case animal treatment alongside branches, Inspectors and private vet clinics
Assisting in case animal work with our Inspectors, including attending court as a witness
Participation in clinical governance and quality improvement tasks such as significant event audits
Participation in the 1:8 out of hours rota with good compensatory rest
You’ll have:
Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
Broad range of surgical skills, both routine and emergency
Capable of advising team members in clinical situations
Experience in basic orthopaedics is desirable
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Logical approach to clinical decision making
Ability to take leadership responsibility as and when required
