Job Description

Title: Animal Care Assistant (Live in)

Location: Watford

Salary: £18532.80 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week on a rota basis

Term: Permanent (3 month probationary period)

Reports to: Centre Manager

Purpose of the post:

Animal Care Assistants are responsible for the general care and welfare of the animals during their stay with the Trust.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Animal Care

1.1. To clean the kennels and exercise areas and other animal housing, to a high standard acceptable to the Centre
1.2. To feed and groom the animals as directed by your Supervisor
1.3. To be responsible for the exercising of the animals as directed by your Supervisor
1.4. To be responsible for keeping the Animal Kitchen and General Areas of the Centre clean and tidy at all times
1.5. To ensure that any animal sickness or injury is reported directly to your Supervisor
1.6. To show animals to members of the public if required
1.7. To carry out evening duties as when required.

2. Other Duties

2.1. To participate in the telephone duty. Ensuring that the out of hours telephone service is answered
2.2. To ensure that the live in accommodation is clean and tidy at all times.
2.3. Due to our location it is essential to be able to drive, as there is no public transport
2.4. To attend any Team and other internal meetings as requested
2.5. To attend relevant training and personal development opportunities in order to fulfil the requirements of the post
2.6. To adhere to all NAWT policies and procedures and assist the organisation in developing, implementing and monitoring them, including Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety policies
2.7. To carry out any other duties relevant to the post as directed by the Supervisor or Board of Trustees


Essential Experience/Skills

Experience of caring for animals in an employment environment or a relevant qualification
Good communication and customer care skills
The ability to be flexible and work as part of a team
Experience of working with members of the public
Some knowledge and experience of administrative and IT skills
An empathy with the aims of NAWT is essential, plus a genuine interest in animals and their welfare
